Hi,
Here is a simple silly game for you (who like to read). I arrived at this game idea on the fly when I was talking with my love yesterday. She liked the concept instantly and wanted to try it out and coined the name for the game. We played for like an hour or so and found this is a really interesting game, which helps you to read more about various topics, increase general knowledge, problem-solving, and situation analysis.
Well, this is only a concept of the game, there are no set rules yet but can be added by anyone playing. But I will explain the structure as below.
The challenge : -
Let’s select two random words, try to be as far connected as possible. Say ‘Crow’ and ‘Keanu Reeves. Now, let’s set Crow as the starting point and Keanu Reeves as the destination. The game is to start from the Wikipedia page of Crow, then click on the links available on that page and again read the next page and click on links so, finally reach your destination, which is the Wikipedia page of Keanu Reeves. You can click on any links available on a page, go back and forth but no search typing, but no external URL, only using what’s available on the Wikipedia page. To make the game interesting, a group of people ( 3 or 5 people ) try the challenge same time, and the person who reaches the destination first is the winner. You can set rules like the number of steps to take, time limit, no going back button, etc.
Now, let’s play this for a demonstration. We are on the Wikipedia page of ‘Crow’ . Ok, the challenge is to traverse via the links on the pages and then reach the Wikipedia page of Keanu Reeves .
Let’s start the expedition! :)
- Step 1 - in the page wikipedia page of ‘Crow’ , we can simply click on this link , Corvus brachyrhynchos – American crow (United States, southern Canada, northern Mexico)
- Step 2 - from that page, we find this line -
_C. b. hesperis_ ([Ridgway](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Ridgway), 1887) – western crow: western North America except the [Arctic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic) north, the [Pacific Northwest](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Northwest) and the extreme south. Smaller overall with a proportionally more slender bill[[7]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_crow#cite_note-g&g87-7) and low-pitched voice.- and we can click Pacific Northwest
- Step 3 - in that page, we can click Northern California, from there we click Los Angeles,
- Step 4 - in this page, we can see this line - ethnic and cultural diversity, Hollywood film industry and sprawling metropolitan and click on Hollywood film industry
- Step 5 - in this page, you can see this line the vast battle scenes such as those in The Matrix sequels and 300. You may click on Matrix sequels and then you know what to do next :)
So, that’s the way we did the traversal, this is not the only path, there will be many but the fun part of the game is to get to the destination faster :) It would be interesting, challenging if you play solo / with friends :)
That is all about this game, for now. I have some thoughts on developing this into a standalone Game such as we can integrate Wikipedia data inside the app using their API, showing some time logger, number of steps, and finally show a score or something. But that is for later.
So, go and have fun with WikiLinks explore :)
